Stephen established Salters in 1999. He was dissatisfied with various foods that he tried and wanted the absolute best for his dogs. Stephen is a butcher by trade, as was his father and grandfather before him and he takes immense pride in his work. As a butcher, he was well-placed to source fresh chicken ingredients and sought advice from a rice expert (after learning there were 437 varieties in the world) before settling exclusively on Italian wholegrain risotto rice. Stephen also lived in Spain for a number of years and became a health convert to extra virgin olive oil. It therefore follows that this became one of the fundamental ingredients of his dog food. Stephen has ultimately succeeded in creating a dry complete veterinary formulated food for dogs of the highest quality and is proud to call it Salters.
