We were very excited to hear that Maureen’s dogs won 2nd and 3rd at Crufts 2020. They are both fed with Salters and we wanted to know more about their success.
Hi Maureen, introduce yourself and your dogs
My name is Maureen my current show dogs are Lacey and Mr Brian.
When and how did you get into dog showing?
I fell in love with Lhasa-Apso’s in 1977. They are a long-coated breed, so high maintenance! My husband said “you should give the dog a haircut because you’re not going to show her” but I held off. The following weekend I went off to a show. She won 3 firsts and that was it I was hooked!
It must have been exciting to get 2nd and 3rd at Crufts 2020, how did it feel?
I have had good placings at Crufts over the years. Last year in 2019 Mr Brian was best puppy in breed.
Do you remember the first time you went to Crufts? or was this your first?
I first qualified for Crufts in 2004 with my first home bred girl Ruby.
How did you celebrate?
We went back to our Hotel for Champagne.
What difference has Salters dog food made?
The difference Salters makes is the quality of the food. I wouldn’t use anything else, the coats on my dogs are very good and that comes from good breeding and the best food.
What are your showing plans for the future?
I will continue showing my wonderful breed for as long as I can. It’s the whole day I enjoy not just the showing. The enjoyment is made by the people you get to socialise with too.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get into dog showing?
My advice to ANYONE is to do your research. Choose a breed that’s right for your lifestyle and always go to a Kennel Club assured breeder. Make sure you ask questions, visit the breeder and join a breed club.
